I LOVE Boomwhackers and have been using them for decades in my music/drum circles, performances, residencies, facilitator trainings and workshops. I have used them with very young children to build pitch awareness, rhythmic skills and better awareness. They are also terrific for exploring the "science of sound" as the length of the tube increases, the pitch of the tube gets lower.

The beauty of boomwhackers is that they are an inexpensive, lightweight, colorful, and fun variation of pitched percussion that can be used for all kinds of community music-making experiences from drum circles to music improvisation to performance. Tones are created by "whacking" the tubes on just about any solid surface. Boomwhackers are popular around the world for all ages and abilities!

A Boomwhacker is a percussion instrument in the plosive aerophone and idiophone family. They are lightweight, hollow, color-coded, plastic tubes, tuned to a musical pitch by length. They were first produced by Craig Ramsell through his company Whack Music in 1995.

Found in most elementary music classrooms and music therapy programs around the world, these affordable, color-coded, tuned percussion tubes provide an opportunity for any age and ability to experience success making music. With no limit to the creative learning process, students can feel the joy of learning and experiencing rhythm, pitch and movement while having fun!

What are the BENEFITS of playing Boomwhackers?
  • Boomwhackers offer a great way to teach music through engagement and FUN.
  • Boomwhackers are terrific for Team building. Boomwhacker activities can guide people of all ages to a better understanding of how to work and create together.
  • Great for facilitators! Boomwhackers offer a lightweight variation to the traditional drum circle and they also move drum circles into the world of melody and harmony.

You can now find Boomwhackers at Rhythm Band Instruments

Mary Knysh Named as "Boombassador"

April 2023 - I just returned from a short but really fascinating visit to the headquarters of the huge online music merchant, Sweetwater, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I was showcasing all of the amazing possibilities that the versatile Boomwhackers offer us for engagement, creative play, and community music. While there, one of the many wonderful employees said to me, "Oh, you must be the Boombassador for Rhythm Band Instruments", of which I answered, "YES! That's it!!"

Check out the video below which I put together for the Sweetwater event.
