Looping Your Way to an Inspired Home Practice
with Mary Knysh, Brian Weber and Leanne Darling

FREE Zoom Session
(MY gift to YOU)

The quiet rhythm of winter invites us inward. Slower days, softer sounds, and more time at home create a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with your music. A personal practice is more than technique ─ it is a living space where creativity, reflection, and inspiration grows.

For over three decades, looping has been one of the most powerful tools shaping this kind of musical space. Loopers open a doorway into layered sound, spontaneous creation, and playful exploration ─ transforming practice from routine into discovery.

In this special session, Mary Knysh is joined by Brian Weber and Leanne Darling
to share how each of them developed a fun, sustainable, and deeply meaningful home practice through looping. Together, they will explore how looping can support creativity, growth, and joyful daily music-making.

This online workshop invites you to build a meaningful, sustainable home practice through the creative use of looping.

Why Looping?

Looping is one of the most accessible and transformative tools for improvising musicians. By recording and layering simple musical ideas ─ drones, rhythms, melodies ─ you create an evolving musical landscape to explore and respond to in real time.

T
hrough looping, you can:
  • Develop fluency in spontaneous music-making
  • Strengthen rhythmic grounding and internal pulse
  • Build confidence in solo improvisation
  • Explore texture, layering, and musical form
  • Create a playful, inspiring daily practice
  • Deepen your personal musical voice

Looping in Practice & Performance

Loopers are powerful not only for personal practice but also for teaching, performing, and leading groups. Layering musical parts allows listeners to hear how individual voices combine into a living musical whole.

From building rhythmic foundations to creating full musical textures, looping offers a clear, engaging way to explore melody, harmony, and form ─ while inviting deep listening and playful experimentation.

Choosing a Looper

There are many wonderful loopers available today. Each allows you to record and layer sound from voice and instruments.

Beginner-Friendly
  • Jam Man ─ simple, reliable, and great for getting started

Highly Recommended
  • Boss RC-30 ─ flexible, dependable, and performance-ready
  • Bommerang Looper ─ intuitive, musical, and excellent for real-time creative flow and live layering

Advanced Options
  • Boss RC-300 ─ multi-layer looping with expanded control
  • Headrush Looperboard ─ powerful, performance-level looping environment

You will also need a small amp or sound system to bring your loops into the room. Even a modest portable system works beautifully for home practice.
