This July I will be partnering with Dr. Wendy Valerio and the University of South Carolina in offering a summer Professional Development course titled "Inclusive Music Circles". This course is designed for music educators, music therapists, and drum circle facilitators, and will feature music improvisation, responsive musicianship, social-emotional awareness, student leadership, community building , and self-reflection. This course will offer options for CEU certification for professionals as well as graduate and undergraduate credit for students. We would love to invite you to join us!

Drumming Up a Better Brain & Creative Classroom Management
Presented: Friday - February 4, 2022
Mary shares brain-based rhythmic activities designed to invigorate learners and to develop important mind-body connections. Combine music and movement strategies that address student accountability, daily transitions, engagement, leadership, and higher order thinking. Participants learn sequential strategies for integrating rhythm, melody and harmony within a drum circle setting where barred instruments, small and large percussion, ukuleles, recorders and Boomwhackers can all be included.
Developing Global Perspectives Through World Music
Presented: Friday - February 4, 2022
Explore engaging brain-based experiential learning strategies for teaching world music that promote understanding and appreciation for world traditions and inspire spontaneous compositions created by students of all ages. Mary illustrates how interactive improvisational play nurtures inclusion, student choice, student-to-student engagement as they learn rhythmic and tonal systems from Africa, South America, India, Middle East, and Indonesia while they expand their own musical self-expression.
Medieval Modes & Movement: Easy Access for Grades 3-12

Learn a sequential, easy, and accessible approach for teaching Medieval Modes which engages students in self-directed learning resulting in composition, choreography, documentation, reflection, revision, performance, and evaluation. Explore the unique, social, emotional, expressive aspects of Medieval Modes using barred instruments, small and large percussion, ukuleles, recorders, and Boomwhackers.
