The Art of Improvisation
A Music for People-SPAIN Seminar - VIII
Madrid Spain
April 24-26, 2020
Picture

Music for People is a music improvisation program created more than 30 years ago in the USA by David Darling, which has helped musicians around the world to discover a new dimension of musical realization.

In this weekend seminar you will be provided with tools for musical exploration and appreciation which will enable you to establish a deeper connection with music, far away from your secret fears and inhibitions. You will explore your sound creativity following simple structures that will help you untangle and feel confident. Each participant has the opportunity to explore music like a child in a liberating environment. Letting judgments aside, you will be able to embrace your own wondrous and unique sounds and rhythms. By yourself or in small or large groups, you will be able to improvise with voice, percussion, or your own instrument in different timbre combinations.

This seminar is really useful for any kind of musician, professional or amateur, of any age and any musical style. You will acquire resources that can be applied in your own musicality but also in the therapeutic or educative field.

Facilitator Program
Music for People - SPAIN
April 24-26, 2020
This program aims to prepare people who have participated in at least two (2) Music for People seminars as an instrumentalist, to develop the necessary skills to be a facilitator and to master the tools and techniques that make up the corpus created by David Darling and Mary Knysh through their years of experience.
  • These tools can be applied in the field of interpretation, education, health, social, and community.
  • We offer five (5) places each year
  • The program consists of three (3) levels of training.

PREPARATION:
  • Participate in at least two MfP-Spain seminars as an instrumentalist and initiation to facilitation.
In this stage the person has the experience of improvising freely and spontaneously, while observing the strategies, dynamics, and forms of action that Mary Knysh uses to unlock the musical creative process.  At least two seminars are required so that there is a minimum of depth in the experience. When assigning the places to the interested applicants, priority will be given to those who have completed prior seminars as instrumentalists.

LEVEL 1 - MENTOR:
  • Participate in facilitator practice activities that are established in the hours prior to the beginning and end of the seminar.
  • Lead a small group activity.
  • Lead a large group activity.

LEVEL 2 - JUNIOR FACILITATOR:
  • Participate in facilitator practice activities that are established in the hours prior to the beginning and end of the seminar
  • Direct a small group activity.
  • Direct two activities in a large group.

LEVEL 3 - SENIOR FACILITATOR:
  • Participate in facilitator practice activities that are established in the hours prior to the beginning and end of the seminar.
  • Coordinate the activities in small groups.
  • Lead several activities in a large group.
  • Co-lead the inaugural session.
  • Present your own MfP seminar project. For this part, Mary Knysh will act as a mentor.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Each level is required to have done the previous one, and must be done in different seminars.
  • Each level is independent and you can stop the training at the time you want.

CERTIFICATE:
  • Music for People-SPAIN offers a certificate of training once passed each level.
